Rick Turner
Rick
Turner is a
leading figure in Welsh Archaeology. In his talk he will reveal the results of new research
into the construction of Chepstow’s internationally famous Medieval monument.
He will explore how a great castle was built using the well-documented
and surviving fabric of Roger Bigod's work at Chepstow Castle as an example.
The talk will show how this great lord acted as a patron, how his master mason
designed and organised the building, where the other workers and the building
materials came from, and how the work was undertaken. We take these great buildings
for granted but the joys and frustrations of doing work at your own home were
shared by those in the past.
During
the interval, when wine will be available as well as tea or coffee, copies of Rick's book
‘Chepstow Castle: Its History and Buildings’ will be on sale, which Rick will be pleased to sign..
